The Mountain Warfare Training Center is located in the Toiyabe National Forest in California. The Center falls under the jurisdiction of the Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Command. The mission at the Mountain Warfare Training Center is to prepare Marines and Allied Forces for operations in cold and mountainous environments. The base is also used as a development and testing site for cold weather equipment.
MWTC has several unique facilities to support it's mission including rock climbing training areas, an avalanche training site and ski lifts. The training programs that are offered at MWTC include the Mountain and Cold Weather Survival Course, the Assault Climber Course, the Scout Skier Course and the Special Operations Forces Horsemanship Course.
