Our Goal
"This app is a must for both active duty and retired military personnel and dependents. Has extensive info for all CONUS military bases."
- TheFortWorthKid
BaseDirectory.com is the web extension of the Base Directory (originally Military Traveler) mobile app. It started as a small project to save people time and frustration by getting them the information they needed in an easy-to-use manner. It continues today as the leader in mobile base directories setting the standard for others to strive for. We are constantly working to improve the accuracy and comprehensiveness of our directory.
As a user, you are a partner in our mission to deliver the very best information for military bases worldwide. We want to hear back from you! Whether that’s a review on the app store, submitting a correction at [email protected], or a general email with a suggestion for an added feature at [email protected]. We want you to be so pleased that you’re bragging to your friends about the website and app you found. Help us get there by keeping us honest and letting us know what you like and what you’d like improved. If you love what you see and want to help, you can do so in the following ways:
- Show the app to a friend, family member, or coworker.
- Post a link to our YouTube commercial or website on Facebook.
- Send in a correction request if you find a mistake.
- Email us with a suggestion for what you’d like to see added.
Our Team
-
Tony Hatala
Co-Founder & CEOHailing from the great state of Indiana, Tony is the man to talk to about product improvements. After countless PCSs, cross country flights, and liberty trips to San Diego, Tony knew there was a better way to organize and distribute base information. He drew the basic design of the app and started programming in December of 2009. After a yearlong hiatus the project resumed in the winter of 2011. ”Military Traveler” hit the iTunes Store in March of 2011.
-
Billy Griffin
Co-Founder & CTOAlso a Hoosier, Billy started consulting on the project in the fall of 2011 and joined the team formally that winter. He loves sports, finance, big grey ships, and building technology to help people. Ask Billy about sponsorship opportunities to help fund the development of more mobile tools to help military families.

Leah McDonnell
Data AdministratorIf you’re looking for information or have a suggestion for an addition or correction on base, Leah is your girl. Leah was right there with Tony from the beginning, and she has likely added and corrected more information to Base Directory than any other person has ever added to any directory period. This Wyoming native loves sailing, fishing, and Duval Street parties. She's also been known to hop to various European villages in her off-time, and is likely the toughest of any of us.

Kristen James
Customer Service & Data ManagerKristen was born and raised in Powell, Wyoming, making her our second Wyoming native (what are the odds!?). Kristen became a military spouse in 2009 but was still working for the government full time until 2015. That’s when she met Billy in at a wedding and first learned about Base Directory. Upon relocating OCONUS to Okinawa, she learned what an invaluable tool Base Directory could be. Kristen joined the team after exchanging emails with Billy and he asked if she had interest in helping out. She jumped at the opportunity, and here we are!

Corrinne McKenna
Customer Service & MarketingCorrinne is a proud Yankee, born and raised on Long Island (the rest of the company, hailing from the Midwest and Plains, does not endorse her misplaced Northeast pride). She loves baseball, aviation, craft beer, and dress blues. Corrinne's involvement with Base Directory began in 2013 with a lunch she and her husband shared with their new neighbor Tony. What began with a ham sandwich blossomed into a passion for improved access to resources on military bases (a natural progression). Corrinne decided to join the Base Directory team later that year and is responsible for social media and marketing projects.

You-Myeong Kim
Strategy and Marketing InternYou-Myeong worked with Base Directory during Summer 2015. You-Myeong hails from White Plains, NY, and is an Economics major and Computer Science minor at Harvard. He and a group of friends from Harvard received a grant from the Christopher Reeve Foundation for an accessibility-related travel guide. The project is called 20 States on Wheels. He is passionate about solving hard problems and learning about a variety of disciplines. He's also the sole team member who frequents Twitch and Reddit.

Will Schwartz
Strategy and Marketing InternWill worked with Base Directory during Summer 2015. Will is also from the east coast, hailing from the suburbs of Philadelphia. He is a History major at Middlebury College in Vermont, and in his spare time enjoys craft beer, hiking, and exploring new places. After his Sophomore year, Will interned in Senator Barbara Mikulski's office, and was responsibile for obtaining information about many of the Maryland military installations for her office. His interests are broad, but include Politics and Military History.

John Griffin
Customer Service DirectorAs you can see from his picture, John is always looking for ways to help our base customers get their information out to military members. He was our Customer Service Director from 2012-2013 and liaison for installations wishing to use the Base Directory app locally.
