The auto hobby shop at Norfolk Naval Shipyard is a do it yourself garage, where customers can bring their car and parts and use our tools and space for a small fee. We have five lifts, three open bays, and the equipment needed to mount and balance tires. You may do any mechanical work in our facility excluding fuel pumps, body work, painting or hot work. The facility features Five lifts, two flat bays and plenty of tools are provided to get the job done. The shop does not carry supplies or parts such as oil, filters and spark plugs.
The Auto Hobby Shop is open to all military, dependents, retirees and DOD civilian workers, men or women.
The lifts are first come first serve basis for do it yourself, but call to schedule an appointment for drop off services.

My experience was less than pleasant. The prices for the lifts are different than what's posted on the website and on the sign posted on the wall of the shop. The website and what's posted on the wall has lifts listed as $4.00/hr, but the actual price is $6.00/hr. The only attendant working was constantly away from his desk so it added an extra 45 minutes of time to my hourly charge waiting on him to return to give me more tools. I will spend the extra time to drive out to Oceana's hobby shop.
