The post cemetery at Fort Benning, Georgia remains and active cemetery and the site for burials for many Army infantryman. The cemetery also contains the remains of seven former Italian and forty-four German P.O.W.s who died while held at the fort during World War II. This includes a German Lieutenant General who died in an automobile accident on the base. The cemetery also contains the final resting place of three Medal of Honor recipients.
